Cherry Blossom Bust
As long as I have held a camera in my hand I have wanted to go to Washington D.C. to view the cherry blossoms.
A few years ago my husband and I drove to Florida and on the way back we stopped in D.C. to try to get a glimpse (and a few photographs) of the beautiful blossoms... we were to early that year. So when I had the opportunity to catch a ride I jumped!
Before meeting up with some friends, I popped into Beyond the Print to purchase a new, smaller camera pack as I wanted to travel light. I picked up an awesome Tamrac Expedition 3! This pack was perfect for the trip.
This pack was comfortable, lightweight and carried all I needed/wanted. After leaving with my backpack all geared up, I met some friends and we drove to our destination.
After arriving I was saddened to learn that I had (once again) missed "peak" viewing of the blossoms. I was determined to find something to photograph though.
My friends and i decided to explore some and hopped the metro. As I looked (gawked is probably a better use of words) at the architecture of the metro system, the geometrical patterns really caught my eye. Perfect squares and the hard lines of the track were aesthetically appealing to me.
Exiting from the underground, coffee and tea were on the list to warm up some. The temps were below normal that day. We all got in line and ordered our drinks and when we turned around and looked out the window.... SNOW!
The cold and snow persuaded us to find a more indoor activity for a bit. We waited in line to enter the Smithsonian Museum. Others must have been persuaded by snow as well, the museum was fairly packed.
The following day was a bit nicer (no snow) and the journey continued. We decided to check out the monuments.
It was a fun trip. One I will take again next year as I will be more closely following the cherry blossom watch site to see when the "peak" time is!
