A World in Ruins

Life has been a bit turned upside down as of late. With all that is happening it is important to take time to breathe, relax and enjoy. I know this is easier said than done as gathering and doing what is "normal" is not in the cards. Worry seems to surround us. Worry about loved ones, the virus, financial situations and so many other things.

So, what do you do that is safe, social distanced and enjoyable??? Take a hike! Get outside while the getting is good. The crisp smell of autumn and the crunch of leaves is a good way to start any day.

I was able to take a day to drive to Williamsport and go hiking with friends. We hiked some trails out to the Remington Ruins. Beautiful, well maintained trails had my camera clicking!!

I have Googled this location to try to offer some real info, but to no avail. So I will leave you with what the marker at the location read.

"Edward R. Remington, who was the original owner came to Lycoming County in 1843.  He purchased a sawmill, and engaged in the lumber business. Together Edward and his wife, Elizabeth, had five children, and by the year 1905 had acquired 1500 acres in the Mosquito Valley. The old Remington homestead was situated on a hillside sloping to a stream named Remington Creek. The building itself was a quaint, old fashioned, cottage-like structure with a surrounding porch. There was a well on the left and a springhouse on the right, which can still be seen today. Although not much is known about the earliest inhabitants of the Remington place, some people believe that the aqueducts in this area were once used for trapping and housing fish. The Remington Ruins are a part of this area's history, along with the many other historical sites, here in Mosquito Valley. "

This placard was placed here as an Eagle Project by Chris Decker of Troop 12 in August of 2001

I can only imagine sitting on the front porch and taking in these sites on a daily basis. What a wonderful view!  Here are some photos I took from the day.

After we worked up an appetite hiking, we grabbed a delicious tower of pizza at The Stonehouse. I highly recommend this place to grab a bite or two!!
