Have wings, will travel

Image
It's no surprise (if you have read previous posts) that I am somewhat of a bird watcher. We have several feeders and many flowers that attract feathered friends, and sometimes furry friends (that I have yet to capture, but have been trying) who like to rip the feeders down. I have been wanting to capture the hummingbird for quite some time. They amaze me.  Hummingbirds are so small and so quick, they are such a joy to watch flit around. One afternoon I noticed a pair of these fantastic creatures coming and going from the feeder. I grabbed my Pentax K30 with my zoom lens and headed out to sit on the porch and wait. I didn't have to wait to long for the beautiful colored bird to come back. Shooting was a challenge, as I knew it would be. Those hummers are quick. Setting up the shot and getting the right settings took a bit for me. Did I want to stop the wings in action or did I want them to look in motion? Focusing was tricky as they move so quickly. There were some arti...

Pigs with Personality

Image
When I was around twelve years old we had four pigs. It was one of my chores to feed the pigs, and when they first arrived I was excited. Baby pigs, after all, are some super cute little animals! I began my chores of feeding and caring for the pigs with enthusiasm. As they grew (and at the age of twelve I wasn't) they began to out weigh me, push me around when I brought their food and intimidation set in. I also began to tire of the clean up of pen duty. Shoveling after pigs is not that fun of a job. Once they got out of their pen and I realized then how quick, intelligent and evasive they can be. These lessons had all but faded by the time I arrived at The Troy Fair this year to photograph the livestock sale. As the day went on I grew a better understanding of many of the pig related "sayings" that had been creeping back into my mind. Pigs definitely have a personality. Some pigs trotted right into the ring stopped by the food container long enough for me to photo...

Joe goes through LeRaysville

Image
On Monday, July 24th I had the pleasure of meeting up with Joe Snedeker and making a donation to his bike ride as he passed through LeRaysville, PA. Heavy rains passing through  Bradford County did not stop Joe from making his bike trek through our area. This photo was not taken along Joe's route. Joe stopped at Northeast Bradford HS where he was greeted by the day care. Joe began the day in Troy, PA   making his way to LeRaysville before heading on to Tunkhannock .  I was able to capture some of the moments from his stop.  He was greeted by a warm community welcome. After arriving the WNEP-TV crew set up for a broadcast. There were so many moving parts in getting this together. The satellite truck was on location, the camera crew was in position, Don Jacobs was ready to go live and the LeRaysville community was there to cheer! Feeling nostalgic

Image
For some reason the past few days I have been feeling a bit nostalgic and thinking about objects from my childhood. Today has been a dreary, cold type day and so I decided to turn the living room into a studio of sorts and photograph. I combined my two passions, photography and softball, in this impromptu set up. I used my lighting kit from LimoStudio to grab some images of days gone by. Be on the lookout for more of these photos to show up for purchase on  my FineArtAmerica website. I used this bat and ball during my Little League days. Me with the Louisville Slugger. This is an old Polaroid I had that I dropped and broke recently. I grew up listening to 8 tracks with my parents. What is an 8 track? Polaroid Follow me on Facebook Visit my photo shop on FineArtAmerica

A softball State of mind

Image
A weekend ago a couple friends and I hopped in their truck and decided to drive to Happy Valley. Our destination, a Penn State softball game. I mean, how could you not be happy going to watch a Big 10 softball match up on a beautiful sunny day. We arrived on the campus, and I first noticed the aftermath of the Blue and White game. All of the grassy areas showed the effect of the many who were there the day before watching Penn State Football. After driving around a bit we finally found a spot to park and we were ready to enjoy the sun and a game. The Lady Lions were gearing up to sweep the series against  Rutgers. PSU had taken the first two games of the series, but a couple of miscues would see the end result with Rutgers on top for the last game of the bout.  Penn State Softball Rutgers Softball Big 10 Softball NCAA Softball National Pro Fastpitch Softball Follow me on Facebook Visit my photography online
